Prominent British Retailer GAME Closing 127 Stores by 2013
The Recession may be over but some companies are still feeling the pinch and GAME is the latest to suffer. While the company is still making profit, it appears the companies profits have now dropped by around 27%. It also appears that the CEO, as well as the COO have left the company as well, which could mean that the new management is looking to restructure the company across the UK.
It’s not all bad news however, as this won’t come into immediate effect. It has been said that the affected GAME stores will close gradually up until the end of 2013, and it hasn’t been announced which stores will face the chop. It was also revealed by the interim CEO, Chris Bell, in an official statement that there are plans to improve the stores which will won’t be closed.
Speaking about some of those plans, Chris Bell said “Our stores are a place to experience games, and the format is evolving to cater for their changing needs and the incoming new technology. We are trialling interactive kiosks and improved ecommerce connectivity in selected stores to expand further the range with thousands more product lines and enhanced the customer experience. To deal with the transactional volumes through our stores, we continually upgrade our IT infrastructure. As part of this we are installing both customer conversion technology and top-up card activation capabilities within our outlets."

Interesting that it's such a slow phase-out of stores. Perhaps they're hoping that the market will improve during that time, limiting closings?

Could be the case. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was. But I don't know that much about what's happening atm tbh. We'll probably hear more in the future.
They do have a lot of stores around right now though, it's not uncommon for there to be two or more GAME's in an area, and that's not including Gamestation (Another games retailer, GAME bought them out awhile ago). For example, in my town centre on one street, there's a GAME and up the road, there's a Gamestation too, so maybe they realised that they've overdone it

Too bad North Americans are still suffering from an severe depression.
Even worse that more stores are being closed.
