Rank System: Implementation and Suggestions

Hey guys. I looked at the poll results...and I decided to implement the Rank system for a trial period to gauge reaction and results.

You may have noticed them as they are already tentatively active, here are the ranks and number of posts needed as of now. Feel free to comment on your thoughts, including different numbers, more ranks, and rank names (although I prefer if Kricket is in there somewhere.)
Kricket Noobie 0
Kricket Inductee 25
Kricket Contributor 50
Kricket Frequenter 100
Kricket Silver Member 250
Kricket Gold Member 500

(Admin and Mods are seperate)

I'm thinking of having 10 ranks, each requiring a lil less? Let me know...

This is an great idea. Thanks for approving it.

We have a caste system now :p but seriously, the only thing I can see this doing long term, is encourage a few to chase rank, which may seem like a good idea to boost posts, but will probably just lead to an increasing quantity overall quality in terms of comments, I can see why a rank system could be attractive, though I think it could also do more harm than good, giving seniority based on number of posts regardless of content, just seems plain unfair, and kind of unwelcoming for newcomers.

Those are legitimate concerns and I'll be watching carefully to see how this goes. If it seems like it encourages lazy posts, then I'll remove it. But I hope that it'll be something that'll encourage users to come back and post a little more to an eventual "goal."

Some people are just no fun.

I'd agree if our userbase wasn't what it is. But since this place still seems to be populated by level-headed people (with the obvious exception of me), I don't think it's that big of a deal.

I'm going to try to think of some more awesomer rank names this weekend. Right now I'm not (I think I'm getting the flu), but I will. :3

Kricket Elder (the rank I'm at right now) is not there on the list. Can you update the list of ranks if possible?

Ah thanks. Also you're approximately 60 post away from the 500 mark. What's going to be after Kricket Master?

Well, my rank is Admin, which will always be highest. As its automatically set up, thats my rank and i don't get the other ones. (Which I'm fine with.) Rest assured that if someone hits above 500, I'll make more ranks, and do my best to do it in a way that doesn't demote anyone else.
