Playstation 2
A general discussion regarding the Playstation 2 system
This is an brillant system, easily one of my favorite non-Nintendo systems. Tons of excellent games, large library, and so many hours wasted on the system, it delievers in every level.
I am considering getting another Playstation 2, but I'll hold off of that for now.

Reala's random ramblings on PS2
I remember DVD being a major reason I bought PS2, huge library of games, but didn't think its launch titles where that great, though it more than made up for that as time went on, the fact it only had 2 controller ports was disapointing, earlier consoles like N64 and DC had 4 ports afterall, overall a great and varied system.

A DVD feature is also nice to have. I used to watch movies sometimes on it.

Re: Playstation 2
This console happens to have my favorite game on it, which is "accidentally" Breath of Fire V.

PS2!
My favorite console of the previous generation. It's not as strong as the GC and Xbox in the graphics department but it has most of the best games this century.
And most of the Metal Gear titles are exclusive to Sony.

Re: Playstation 2
What is your favorite video game for the Playstation 2?
Mine would be Gran Turismo 3. A brillant game with great musics, fantastic gameplay, lots of stuff to do, beautiful visuals, etc. No wonder why it was so universally acclaimed AND sold so well.
It was also one of the first four games I got with the Playstation 2 on December, 2001.
@donth8: Doesn't that remind you of the Wii?

Re: Playstation 2
@SSBF Yes it does remind me of the Wii. Gameplay over graphics and Nintendo hasn't pushed the Wii to its limits yet (maybe Mario Galaxy) so we can expect more quality titles in the future.
Staying in topic, my favorite game for the PS2 is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence/Snake Eater. It's stealth gameplay at it's finest. It's one of the best looking games for the PS2. I also like the Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry , and the God of War games.
My copy of Gran Turismo 3 got scratched and now my PS2 can't read it. But I have GT4. Also one of the best looking games for the PS2.
I'll definitely expand my PS2 library some more while the games are cheap and easy to find.

Re: Playstation 2
Actually, maybe I should buy a PS2 for cheap. Then I don't have to borrow PS2s. Soooo simple, but I can't do it..

Re: Playstation 2
A second hand PS2 is really cheap but a brand new Slim is $100 which is cheaper than a brand new Nintendo DS.
I'm glad Sony is still making them.

The PS2 is still doing much better than the PS3, right?

Re: Playstation 2
I love my ps2, which is why I'm so glad I managed to get a backwards compatible ps3, so I'll be revisiting much of my library in the coming year. It was THE system to have for RPGs, as both the GCN and Xbox were lacking in them.
Some of my favorites: God of War 1 and 2, MGS2, FFX, KH series, SMT: Persona 3 and 4, and the Xenosaga trilogy.

In sales, yes.Ninty wrote:The PS2 is still doing much better than the PS3, right?
Quality of games? yes but the PS3 saw some really good titles in '08 like inFamous, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, GTA 4, Dead Space, Resistance 2. It saw some really good titles in '09 too like the Game of the Year: Uncharted 2 etc.
First quarter of '10, the PS3 welcomes the year with more great games like Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII, and God of War III.
It's a good time to be a PS3 owner...but I don't have the money to buy one

I want all 3 of those games...but I don't have the money for them.
Re: Playstation 2
The only game I would buy a PS3 for happens to be Valkyria Chronicles. That game must be so good.

Re: Playstation 2
Since I'm not much of a console gamer, I only have a handful of PS2 games (sacrilege I know!). Of those few games, I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy X/X-2 (yeah the story wasn't good, but the battle system was a lot of fun~), and Ratchet and Clank.
Yeah, I hear nothing but good things about it. Another game that I really should pick up.Ninty wrote:The only game I would buy a PS3 for happens to be Valkyria Chronicles. That game must be so good.

oooooh Ratchet & Clank. Those games were the best for me back in the day lol. Tales of the Abyss was another gem. One of the best Tales games released to this side of the planet >.>
And of course FF X, X-2, and XII.
Some of the early Dragonball Z games were good too.

Re: Playstation 2
I'm thinking of picking up Shadow of the Colossus and Eternal Poison if I can find them for 25.99 and under. Poison looks really pretty, and I've heard people rave about Colossus. Anyone played these? Should I get them?

I've heard the same about Colossus, it's on my to-get list. EP is an ATLUS so it's probably good but it's also probably rare. Good luck!
Re: Playstation 2
Colossus is going for 19.99 right now on Amazon.ca, so I'll probably end up picking it up unless it gets sold out before I manage to get to it (still a few other games that are higher priority, but I may just end up picking it up in May because 20 is just too good to pass up).
Surprisingly, my local EB Games has a brand new copy for 40/35 right now (can't remember which one). I'm holding out for another price drop, hoping no body picks it up before then. No artbook for me, so I'm just going to take my chances with it.

Re: Playstation 2
Never played Shadow of the Colossus.
Do you have to play ICO first to understand what's going on?
