Elfen Lied
So I started watching the series earlier. Damn Internet speeds have meant that I have only gotten through the 1st episode so far but I like it. I heard about the graphic violence beforehand but I wasn't expecting such strong nudity throughout (Somehow).

Re: Elfen Lied
So there weren't any warnings of nudity at all?
You can always cover your eyes when it's sexy time but if it doesn't bother you at all, then keep watching.
It depends on the viewer. I don't mind glimpses of topless chicks and behind but full frontal nudity is just nasty

Re: Elfen Lied

Re: Elfen Lied
Is there any difference between the manga and the anime?
I'm more of a reader so am I better off reading the manga?

Re: Elfen Lied
I actually went a nd read the manga afterwards and theres a lot of differences. They made the anime before the manga had wrapped up so theres a lot of differences starting around the halfway point. Both are good, I just happen to prefer anime but if manga is your thing, the original Elfen Lied is good, too.
Purdy good.
I decided to watch the anime first before reading the manga.
When you said there was a lot of nudity, you weren't kidding
I got all the way up to episode 7 last night.
I don't watch a lot of animes but I'm actually enjoying this one.

Re: Elfen Lied
Once you guys finish the series, please check out this AMV I made earlier this year.
I say after you finish because I can't remember if there's anything that could be considered spoilers.

Re: Elfen Lied
Hey O_B, I finished watching the anime a few hours ago and I also watched your AMV. I'm official a fan of Elfen Lied.
I enjoyed the anime a lot and from what I've read, the anime left out some stuff that were in the manga.
So I'm off to read the manga. 107 chapters? Wish me luck.
I also enjoyed your AMV, good choice of music (Coheed and Cambria FTW) and it fits with the anime's mood and theme. I also like the clips that you used.
I want to talk about it some more but I'll have to wait till Terra finishes up the anime.

Re: Elfen Lied
I will try and watch some more episodes after work tonight. Without interuptions (And The fact that I'll need to be up early tomorrow), I could probably make it through 5-6 episodes.
Also, I hear that there's an OVA for the series. Where exactly does that fit into the series?

Re: Elfen Lied
I've heard that too but I have no idea. Link if you find it, as it was never released in English/outside of Japan so I've never seen it. T.T
Re: Elfen Lied
The OVA takes place between episode 10 and 11 to fill in some gaps. It's also called Episode 10.5.
The episodes were organized from the site where I watched it so yeah.

Ok sounds good.
I assume the good news is that you got accepted as reviewer for NL? Congrats dude.

Re: Elfen Lied
It was and thanks
Don't worry, the Anime will come first. Mainly because my main DS and the first game I'm reviewing are at my other house (D'oh!). Need to get those tomorrow

Re: Elfen Lied
Episode 8, I'm shuddering just at the thought of it, actually felt a bit sick. That has to be one of the grimmest things I've ever seen from an Amine/Film/TV Show. I'll avoid spoilers but anyone who's seen it should know what I mean.
I've just gone through episode 10.5 now.

Re: Elfen Lied
Awesome, you're finally done.
Note to the people who have yet to watch it: My post will contain SPOILERS from now on so read at your own risk
I don't feel like putting the spoilers tag every time for each post so yeah.^^
Yeah the part where the bullies beat up the dog was gruesome. The whole time I was thinking: wtf is wrong with these kids It's actually more brutal than someone getting decapitated. I'm used to the decapitations (and nudity) because I play a lot of videogames. But animal abuse? Hell no.
Anyways, now that Terra's done with the anime, I'm more than welcome to state my opinions and ask questions.
Overall, I did enjoy the anime. There were some parts that kept me guessing what's going to happen next but it has its fair share of cliches. It involved some of the more common themes such as revenge and jealousy which I didn't have a problem with because the way these themes were presented was very well done.
So you got this Diclonius chick named Lucy who escaped from some research facility where they conducted experiments on them. A Diclonius is a race of humans who were born with horns. Calling them horns kinda bothered me for the first few episodes. They look more like cat ears to me. I'm not the only one who's think so right? Anyways, they were also born with vectors which are these powerful hands. Lucy is the main character of the series but you also got your supporting characters; Kouta, Yuka, Mayu, and Nana.
Before I talk more about the plot, I have a few questions:
-What was Kurama's motive from the beginning? To see his daughter? But didn't he say that he killed his daughter? It was implied that he also let her survive during that one scene where his wife died. They also never mentioned that Mariko was Kurama's daughter until they met near the end.
-If Nyu is Lucy's split personality, why was the Nyu side of Lucy in control for the majority of the time? This might sound dumb but I thought the original personality of a person is in control most of the time and it's the split personality that occasionally takes over.
That's it for now. Hope you guys (O_B and Terra) can help me out with my questions and tie up a few loose ends.
I also wanna know your opinion on the anime.
Re: Elfen Lied
Spoiler Filled Post
Yeah, videogames have gotten me used to stuff like Decapitations as well, they don't scare me in any form of media anymore. But animal abuse, that was tough to take. All that just to bully Lucy.
I enjoyed the anime as well, grim as it may be (Particularly as every character was F***ed over in some way). Yeah, there were some cliches in it and there were some loose ends (I hate these most) but tbh, I didn't really mind, although admittedly I am confused by Kurama's motive as well. At first, I didn't notice any problems but now I'm looking at it in more detail, I'm not sure. As for the personality thing, I hear split personalities don't always work like that so I wouldn't worry.

1) Kurama motive for what? He worked for the company, and learned of the Dicloni. Through that he was tainted and his child was decided. After his wife died, he decided to honor her last request and keep that child alive. Meanwhile, little is known of Nana and her past or why she is'nt as violent as the others, but she serves as the child Kurama can raise as opposed to his true daughter, who is being locked up for her own good and to use her as a hostage against Kurama by whatshisnameThe Boss. His motive in finding Lucy is quite simply revenge for all she has killed.
2) Well in real life, psycologists aren't even sure if it's a real condition. In countries where MPD isnt in media (lieterature, movies, etc.) they don't have ANY documented cases. So it's possible that they're fake or theat we're truly that impressionable. (meaning it'd be unconsciously fake.) As for the show, I think the reason for Nyuu being the dominant personality was that it served the plot better. Both for the suspense of Lucy being free, and for the fact that Nyuu is more peaceful and productive to "the family" than Lucy would be. Also, If Lucy was always conscious, we'd know the truth between her and the protagonist whatshisnamei'mbadatremeberingnames early on, and no in the last 2 episodes. From a "the anime universe" prespective, that bullet triggered a condition that reverts her back to a childlike form, something she can only (briefly) escape from when she is met with similar physical trauma (a boot to the head!)
Re: Elfen Lied
Thanks guys. That makes more sense. That split personality rule doesn't have to apply every time.
One more thing that kinda bothered me.
Kouta and Yuka kinda had that intimate relationship between each other throughout the anime. What's wrong with that? They're COUSINS!
The whole time, they acted as if they were oblivious to the fact that they were family members. Can anyone tell me why it was alright to fall in love with a first cousin?
