Gameboy/Color Discussion
Discussion for Nintendo's first handheld console (since the title of device belongs to Game & Watch).
This system is what really made me into a gaming enthusiast. Prior to my GBC, I was only mildly interested in games. So I have a special place in my heart for the Gameboy. What's your favourite GB/C game? For me, it's Pokemon Crystal.
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
The GBC was my first "system," with my first games being Pokemon Red and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.

We're opposites, my first GB/C game was Pokemon Blue. I never owned SMB. Deluxe, but my friend let me borrow her copy recently. Never played the original SMB before, but I did find it fun. Hammer Bros. and Bowser with Hammers were the most difficult baddies in the game for me. I managed to beat the game, but I haven't tried any of the other modes.
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
That was such a brilliant system. This makes me wished I still had one of those. Ah the good days gone.
My favorite was Pokemon Gold/Sliver/Crystal.

Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
My 3rd favorite handheld just behind the DS and GBA SP.
My first game was Pokemon Blue. I was hooked to the series so I bought Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
I also Super Mario Land, Pokemon Pinball, etc.
I gave my GBC to my cousin. Oh well.

I never bought multiple versions (with the exception of Crystal just cause they finally made a girl character), but I bought other pokemon games as well: Pokemon Trading Card Game and Pokemon Puzzle League. I kind of wish I got Yellow as well, but I'm not too upset.
At least you have your GBA to play them on~
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
The Zelda games on GB/GBC are really damn good. Link's Awakening is my favorite 2d Zelda. And the Turok games, except for 2, are really good too.

3 great Zelda titles and Wario Land 2 & 3 are what I mostly identify with GBC, good battery life too, unlike gamegear for example which took 6 batteries and only lasted a few hours.

gotta catch them all
All I ever played on that thing was Pokemon.
I'm only now realizing how much of a mistake that was. D:

Did anyone play an Race Pro AM-like game for the Game Boy? I remember playing that game a lot, good times, good times.

Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Recently found my copy of Pokemon Puzzle League (I knew it was some where in the house). I'm thinking of playing it after I finish with Wario Land III (going for complete~)
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Zelda: Link's Awakening, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Yoshi. I could almost live on those. xD Well not really, but they're pretty freaking amazing if you ask me.

Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
I actually plan to go back and :B: the last 2 GB games I have, Jurassic Park (1993, GB) and Magi-Nation (2001, GBC)
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Sweeet, I just got my limited edition Pokemon GBC back!! Yess. That was my first and only GBC, but certainly not my first system nor my first handheld. I played the mess out of that thing, nonetheless. I remember being so in awe over the color on old GB games.
Did they ever really make that many actual GBC games? Cuz I think I've only got about a half-dozen GBC cartridges.

Not really. The GBC was really labeled as a better GB more than a GB2 IMO. GB came out in 1989, GB Pocket in 1995, GBC in 1998 and GBA in 2001. So the GBC had less than 3 years, really.
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Really want to pick up Link's Awakening. Everyone I have talked to said it was really good and one of the best Zelda games. The Mario Lands too. Those look good. :3
Yeah, there weren't too many but it was still a decent amount. Most of these came out near the end of its life. Off the top of my head: Pokemon Crystal, Pokemon Puzzle League, the Lufia game, Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, and Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons. There were also a lot of enhanced ports that were GBC-only like: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, Dragon Quest III, and Link's Awakening DX.

I dunno. Personally, I consider the GBC different altogether from the GB or GB Pocket mostly because I didn't think you could play GBC games on the GB. I could be wrong though, as I've long since stopped owning or using a GB. Sadly, I threw both of mine away a couple of years back. D:

The GBC is a lot like the DSi in the sense that there were GBC enhanced games like Pokemon Yellow that worked with both GB and GBC systems, then there were GBC-only games like Pokemon Crystal that you could only play on the GBC. I bet we would see more of these for the DSi if 3DS wasn't just around the corner. And of course the GBC could play all GB games as well. I don't know whether I consider it a successor or part of the GB series. I used to think of it as it's own system, but it does seem like it was intended to be part of the GB series of handhelds.
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Oh, I think know what cartridges you're talking about. Did they happen to have the clear casing? I have a whole 3 games like that. All I know is that I got the Pokemon Yellow/Gameboy Color bundle which rocked. It came with this goody: https://media.photobucket.com/image/pokemon%20yellow%20gameboy/sephiroths-heartless/game-boy-color_439307.jpg

Are you talking about the GBC-only cartridges? I have a few of them and they all seem to be clear or clear-ish (Crystal is the only non-clear GBC title, it's still translucent but Blue-shiny) with that bump where the logo says GameBoy Color. All my GBC-enhanced games are solid colours like the regular GB games (Silver is solid gray-shiny and Harvest Moon 2 GBC is solid black).
Re: Gameboy/Color Discussion
Yes, those. I thought those could *not* be played on a regular GB (rendering the GBC a stand-alone handheld). Is that so?

Yeah, that's right. You could only play them on the GBC. The boxes for these games even said, "Only for GBC".
I don't know if that makes it a stand-alone since DSi has one game like that too, that Photo Duelling game, Photo Showdown, or something like that. But honestly I don't know. I've seen forums/sites that classify it in the Gameboy line and others that make it a stand-alone successor system.
