Re: We need to do Something
I know. I'm getting concerned. I've been feeling anti-social recently too, which hasn't helped haha...
But there has to be a way to get the word out!

I know what you mean. I put up a (lame-ish) youtube video, but since then I've been working non-stop so I've barey even been on KS.
Any suggestions you guys have would be great and I'll do my best to implement anything that sounds good.

That sounds good. I think people will forgive one round of that. If that doesn't work, then I guess we'll have to see.

Also, best tactic right now?
Keep posting.
Find topics you can update or respond to. If other users get emails that their thread is continuing, they might become active again.

No offence of course but FreeForums do have low members/post count so maybe you may have to upgrade to get more members on.
Although I can understand why people use FreeForums.

Re: We need to do Something
I really haven't looked at upgrading to Pro, it'd take a lot more convincing to do so. I also don't think that's currently the issue, I think we just haven't had many people find it/join and continue posting since then. I'd love to get to the point where we have "too many posts or members" lol.

That's my tactic actually! xD
Also, I'll try asking a few BL members if they would like to join when I reply to their comments too.
Re: We need to do Something
Well, I've just joined after looking at an advertisement from Backloggery.
I wasn't asked personally, mind you. So I doubt anyone here will actually know me, I know alot of you, though.
So it's nice to see you all. : )

Hey I know you Ken. We're backlog friends. :3
Welcome to Kricket Stomp. It's great to have more people.

I remember you too. You're the one with the Terranigma and Secret of Mana avatar.

We need another recruitment drive, already the forum seems to be slowly dying once more

Me neither, and the only new people who have joined don't even post on here.

Re: We need to do Something
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I do think it would help activity and member count if the place was a bit better looking. Obviously you can only do so much with these free hosted forums, but even this current layout is somewhat messy. There are far superior free forums to use, but that's beside the point. The current software this forum uses would allow you to tweak numerous important things. A fresh new look for the fresh revival of Kricket Stomp.
I won't claim to be a forum mastermind, but I would do a few of the following before trying to round up people:
-Get a new skin (this skin has numerous issues, from the "upgrade to pro" to the broken calendar icon to several other minor things). You don't have to reinvent the wheel, but looking aesthetically pleasing and having everything fully operational are steps in the right direction.
-Get a new banner that matches with the skin (no offense, but a blurry screencap of rectangular logo made in logomaker isn't necessarily going to appeal to the masses when you're trying to convey a strong first impression)
-Lower the amount of boards/merge some (I know it's nice to have lots of things to discuss, but when you don't have hordes of people coming to the site, it's best to look as active as possible and as clean looking as you can)
-Make board descriptions grammatically consistent
-Ditch the shoutbox for loading time's sake (you're better off with an external chat, such as an IRC channel, if anything at all)
-Get a proper URL (not necessary since it would have to be paid for)
-Find some way to differentiate yourself from the norm
-Make the forum more lightweight (I don't know why, but this is one of the slowest forums I've used. Things like NintendoLife or more graphically intsense forums load instantly and I can watch videos just fine, but using this site is somewhat time-consuming)
-Add a favicon (this forum software allows them to be changed)
I would like to watch this place to succeed, but I don't think it will unless a few changes are made. Again, you don't have to reinvent the wheel, but a little work goes a long way.
