It goes off the rule that "protagonist" (Main character) doesn't necessarily mean "good guy," just as "antagonist" (opposition)doesn't necessarily mean "bad guy."

An example:
Mario from SMB series (good guy, protagonist)
Travis Touchdown from NMH (bad guy, protagonist)

I agree, Wario is awesome! I haven't seen much of Waluigi, so I reserve judgment for now.

Edit: MAGUS! I luv him. He's such a cool character. (yes, I adore CT. My favourite game.)
